Meet the trainer behind Edamame

Hi! My name is Ran Liu. My journey with dog training dates back to 2019 when I started fostering for a local rescue, DogGoneSeattle (still actively fostering and training rescues today!). I adopted my (first) dog DQ early 2019. She has a neutral and calm demeanor, walks great on leash after some training, so good that I decided I have the capacity to take on fosters to help save lives from overcrowded kill-shelters. Well, My first foster put me into tears with repeated poop smeared all over the carpet, especially when I had a full time corporate job in tech. I didn’t quit but started learning more and more, whatever my foster’s quirk may be. One foster chewed up hundreds dollars of electronics, one was so scared to people on our walks that took off into the woods, one wouldn’t leave the house to go on walks, one that barks and lunges at people on leash or over the fence, one that bites anything close to his “resource”. The list goes on… up till March 2026 I have helped 30+ rescues and still counting. All is that to say, I know what it takes to solve behavior problems and get them into homes, can do the same for your dog, make them trustable and pleasure to live with.

I quit my corporate job in early 2025 to fully invest my time in professional dog training. I have since shadowed and apprenticed under well known balanced trainers in the industry, and constantly refining my technique through hands on experience, paid professional courses and seminars. I believe there’s no single best way to train a dog, what works for the dog and human as a team and yield to solid long term result, is the way.

Why Edamame?

Edamame is the name of young soybean, which is one of the top plant-based protein source. As a kid growing up in the rural area, spending time outdoors in nature observing and interacting with animals was my favorite pastime. As a grown-up, the love for our mother Earth and all the creatures who call it home drove me to think about how to preserve it, and eventually landed in a mostly plant-based diet. I hope this story will inspire you to be conscious of how our food comes to the table and the impacts behind the process.

From our very first conversation, she was incredibly patient and empathetic about my concerns. Just talking with her took so much pressure off, and I felt better right away.

My dog has been reactive toward other dogs, growling and lunging forward whenever we passed one on a walk. He’s also very protective at home and would bark and growl nonstop whenever we had guests. Ran helped me break things down into small, achievable goals so the process never felt overwhelming. She explains every method clearly, so I’m not just following instructions; I’m actually understanding the root causes behind my dog’s behavior.

We’ve only been working together for two weeks, and the progress is already amazing. He’s so much calmer at home, and on walks he now checks in with me and comes when I call him. I feel much more confident about handling encounters with other dogs.

We train virtually since we live in different states, and it works wonderfully. Ran is very responsive to questions and reviews every video I send, giving thoughtful feedback on what I can improve.

She is lack of self-confidence, standoffish , won’t bond with my family and won’t go near new human or dogs. Merely a couple days of board and train, Ran showed us a new path for Nugget. Now we have the understandings and the tools that we can use to bond with Nugget, to help her to get over the nervousness that keeps her from happiness. She now gives an alert bark and then promptly stops and looks to me. She now understands what is her job and what is my job. Prior to Edamame Training, she knew some basic commands, but now she responds with much greater consistency. She is much calmer and more confident. We reached out because we were having issues with people coming over to our house, our Belgian Malinois Scout was reactive to people coming over as well as dogs on walks.  Ran helped us out a lot and was very through with training.  He is now like a different dog!  People can come over without us worrying about him and we can go on walks without him reacting to dogs. Now he’s defensive but can also drop his guard and people can come over to our house. He’s also better with other dogs walking next to them and not having a huge reaction. After 4 sessions of in home dog training with Ran, we have noticed significant improvement with Oola's behavior. We had unannounced visitors today and Oola barely barked.
